Hello 2025! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year and I wish you a healthy, happy and hopeful year ahead. We rang in 2025 with an evening of pomp and splendour at the Masked Ball, Truro Cathedral. Over 1,500 merrymakers gathered in one of Cornwall’s most iconic landmarks to celebrate the special occasion. The Masked Ball has got to be one of the most brilliant and unique ways to spend NYE in the UK, which is why I feel it deserves a dedicated post.
Masks on – there’s also something so fun about getting into character!
In itself, Truro Cathedral is incredibly beautiful both inside and out. For the special occasion it was illuminated with a spectrum of colours, only enhancing all of its stunning details. As a Catholic, I was slightly hesitant about such an event being hosted in a Cathedral, however, everyone was respectful of the setting. It’s good to see Truro Cathedral now often being utilised for a multitude of events and attractions, relatively recently hosting the Gaia installation (which I was gutted to miss while it was in residence).
The off-the-Richter evening was a feast for the senses, with live music acts, dancing, and aerial performances – followed by a silent disco into the small hours. For a sleepy, tucked away county, Cornwall sure knows how to party!
For me, the aerial performances really made the night. They really were a sight to behold, especially with the stunning backdrop of Truro Cathedral’s impressively high vaulted nave.
Hats off to the live music acts too – they sure got the good vibes flowing.
Forget the London fireworks, if you are looking for something brilliant to do for NYE 2025 then Cornwall is the place to be. Not only is the Masked Ball Truro Cathedral an incredible option but there are also the famous fireworks at St Ives Harbour – which are also simply stunning.
